Friday to Sunday, 21 to 23 April 2017 - Southern Branch Familiarisation trip to Gloucester

We will be staying at the Hallmark Hotel, Gloucester for two nights. Coach travel so that we can see the local area and visit places of interest has been arranged for the Saturday. Gloucester City itself has many interesting places to visit and these can visited on the Friday or Sunday of the weekend. One of the most famous landmarks is the cathedral, but there are also docks, quays, museums, etc. We will be given info by the Tourist Board.

Slimbridge Wetland Centre

This is a large area of estuarine wetland on the banks of the River Severn. It is a protected environment for birds and wildlife, and home for migratory birds, as well as having special environments for those species which are not native to Britain. Near to the visitor centre are enclosures for otters and flamingos, for example, but on the edge of the area there are hides where visitors can look over the natural wetlands to see all types of wildlife.

Snowshill Manor

A Cotswold Manor House now owned by the National Trust, contains a life-time of eclectic treasurers - from tiny toys to Samurai armour, musical instruments, clocks, - thousands of objects are laid out to view. The garden also is a perfect place to unwind and find quiet corners and unexpected vistas

Then to the delightful Cotswold village of Bourton-on the-Water famous for its picturesque High Street flanked by long wide greens and a river crossed by several wide arch stone bridges - which give it the name of ‘Venice of the Cotswolds’.

Cotswolds Motoring Museum

A visit here to see the vintage and classic car collections, motorcycles, enamel signs and motoring curiosities. See the car you once owned - or the one you could only dream about!

On the way back to the hotel there will be a short orientation tour by coach around the city of Gloucester.
